Professor of Neurology at the Boston University School of Medicine and a Senior Investigator at the Framingham Heart Study (FHS). Her primary research interests are the genetic and risk factor epidemiology of cardiovascular and age-related diseases such as stroke, dementia and brain aging. She has published over 150 peer-reviewed papers, including on the lifetime risks of and temporal trends in stroke and other cardiovascular disease, on the genetics of stroke and vascular brain injury indices, and on multi-biomarker approaches to stroke risk prediction. In particular, she has focused on the study of neurotrophic factors such as VEGF since 2009 and measured serum VEGF levels in Framingham Gen 1 and 2 participants through an NIA funded grant R01 AG 031287. She is also PI on several other NIA grants studying the Epidemiology of Dementia in FHS (AG081220), relating exome chip to brain aging indices (R01 AG033193) and analysing whole exome sequence data in the Alzheimer Disease Sequencing Project (U01 AG49505) and is a key investigator on an RNA sequencing grant.
She serves on the Editorial Board of Neurology, Stroke and Journal of Alzheimer Disease and a reviewer for NIH (sitting member of the Neurological, Aging and Musculoskeletal Epidemiology- NAME- Study section), American Heart Association and for European, UK, German, Dutch, French, Singapore and Indian scientific funding agencies.
